DEFENDING the Center’s three contentious farm laws while stating that “there is no such sentence anywhere that is not in the best interests of farmers,” Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said on Thursday that his government was ready to speak to the peasants if they felt that there were clauses in the laws against their interests.
“I am also the son of a farmer and I also farmed. I can understand the problems of farmers. Due to the old policies, farming became a loss making business and when the farmer sold his crop, it turned out that even the cost price was not met. That is why I urge you to understand these laws. If anyone has any doubts about these laws, then the government is always ready to negotiate for its solution. Attempts have been made to deceive the farmers by creating an atmosphere of protest, but gradually the farmers are starting to understand the truth, ”Rajnath Singh said.
He was addressing the state-level Annapurna Utsav program, organized under the leadership of Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana, via the online mode in the Panchkula of Haryana.
“I think it is necessary to fully understand these laws. Lekin ek virodh ka mahoul bhipaida kiya ja raha hai (But an atmosphere of opposition is created). I think the Farmer Brothers should understand this, ”he said, adding that“ confusion ”over the minimum support price was also widespread.
“I have thoroughly studied agricultural legislation and I can say with certainty that there is no clause according to my information that goes against the interests of our fellow farmers,” he added.
Listing the decisions of the Modi government taken for the welfare of farmers, he said the MSP has been increased by 1.5 times and small farmers have benefited from cheaper loans. More than Rs 1.50 lakh crore was credited to farmers’ bank accounts, he said, adding that this had never happened in the country’s history.
He also referred to Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, saying that Rs 6,000 goes directly into the account of farmers. “There is no possibility of corruption. All the money arrives in your accounts, ”he underlined, recalling that once the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had declared that only 16 paise out of 100 reached people. We are sending 100 paise today and the full amount reaches your accounts, ”he asked.
Appreciating the Haryana government on the handling of Covid-19, he said, “The Haryana government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Manohar Lal, has organized food grains for 27 lakh families. Rations were also distributed in Haryana to 17,000 families in other states as part of the One Nation One Ration Card program.
Calling Haryana a “charismatic land,” he said, “Whether a farmer, a jawan or a wrestler, this is the land of the brave sons. The land here not only spits gold out of the ground, but also produces athletes who win gold at the Olympics. Haryana’s geographic area accounts for only 1.5 percent of the entire country, while its total contribution to agriculture is 15 percent. “
